About The Psychotherapy Institute

Please check our Special Events page for information about upcoming benefits to support TPI. "Like" us on Facebook for special announcements.

The Psychotherapy Institute was founded in 1972 by a diverse group of community-minded mental health professionals—psychiatrists, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and clinical social workers—who had a vision of an organization that:

  • Provides affordable, indepth psychotherapy to those who cannot afford private practice rates and are not eligible for public services
  • Ensures quality training to psychotherapists throughout their professional careers
  • Creates a professional community for psychotherapists

The Psychotherapy Institute, also known as TPI, is now a thriving organization with over 400 psychotherapist members. More than 150 of our members volunteer their time regularly as supervisors, teachers, staff therapists, and committee members to fulfill TPI’s mission.

We offer:

  • Psychotherapy to the community through our Clinic
  • Intensive training in psychotherapy, supervision, and group therapy through the Post-Graduate Training, Supervision Study, and Group Therapy Training programs
  • Continuing education courses and special events for psychotherapists and the public through our Professional Development programs
  • Networking, consulting, and a professional community for psychotherapists in private practice and agency settings

The work of The Psychotherapy Institute is overseen by a volunteer Executive Board.
