Brain and Psyche
Nancy Ulmer, M.S.W., LCSW

One Session: Saturday, February 9, 2008
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: The Psychotherapy Institute

This class is designed to provide an experience-near and clinician-friendly introduction to recent neuroscience findings as they apply to adult psychotherapy. Special focus will be given to attachment theory. Using hands-on models and three-dimensional teaching aids, basic neuroscience will be presented. Readings from Allan Schore, Daniel Siegel, and Louis Cozolino will be explored in an accessible format and applied to clinical work. Case presentations will afford the opportunity for participants to formulate actual clinical work in light of the neurobiology of attachment.

Nancy Ulmer, M.S.W., LCSW, maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Albany, California, and has been studying and writing about the neurobiology of attachment for the past ten years. In addition to long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy, she practices hypnotherapy and EMDR. She is an adjunct faculty member at the Wright Institute where she teaches attachment theory and neuroscience in Human Development. She is author of the paper“The Neurobiology of Attachment; or How Pinocchio Became a Real Boy.”
