The Psychotherapy Institute is accepting applications for new supervisors in the Post-Graduate Training Program. If you are an Institute member and interested in becoming a supervisor, contact Michael Gray, Chair of the Supervisors Committee, for information and an application or download the application below.
Our supervisory faculty is drawn from those members who are experienced in supervision and whose personal commitment to dynamically oriented depth therapy and to continued professional education has prompted them to contribute time and energy to teaching the training staff at the Institute. Supervisors work without remuneration. They serve in one of three capacities: |
| A primary supervisor is a staff therapists primary mentor at the Institute. Working with the therapist from the inception of training, he or she oversees the entire caseload and chairs the supervisory team. | |
| A secondary supervisor follows the staff therapists progress on three or four cases and is assigned when a staff therapist has accumulated more than five client hours a week. | |
| A group supervisor meets jointly with five or six first- and second-year therapists. |
| Supervisors meet weekly in their own offices with their staff therapists. |

Expectations and Responsibilities |
|
A primary supervisor is assigned to supervise a staff therapist by the Director and the Associate Director in consultation with the Trainee Selection Committee. New supervisors begin as secondary supervisors and are chosen by the primary supervisor in consultation with the staff therapist. Supervisors meet weekly with their staff therapists. The primary, secondary and group supervisors of a staff therapist work together as a team. Team meetings are held with the staff therapist after five months, one year, and two years of training, and additional teams meetings may be held as needed. In conjunction with the meeting at the end of each training year, each supervisor also submits a written evaluation. All supervisors are strongly encouraged to participate in a supervisor peer group and to attend the annual Supervisors Conclave. Supervisors must also be willing to participate in at least one other activity at TPI, other than direct supervision, such as being on a committee. |
