A stupendously wonderful community bulletin board which started in the SF Bay Area and has spread across the country through local community Craig's List websites, all accessible through the main site. Both posting to to the site and access to the postings are free of any kind of fee. Craig's List is one of the best ways to find an apartment and buy or sell anything locally. For example, there are always many listings for used cars, computers, and furniture.
511 Transit

Your guide to Bay Area public transit. The site provides access to transit schedules and maps as well as enabling you to plan a trip using public transit anywhere in the Bay Area. You select your starting point, destination, the day and time you plan to make the trip. You can also specify your preference for the fastest trip, fewest transfers, or lowest fare and the maximum walking distance between transfer points. You get step-by-step directions telling you where to wait, how much to pay, where to transfer, and your estimated arrival time. To cope with services that are running behind schedule, you also see the time listed for the next departure.
