CA Telehealth:
Best Practices for Effective and Ethical Online Connection with Your Clients

This course reviews the laws and regulations for providing telehealth in CA. We also explore how telehealth has changed our work and how we can handle the different scenarios that may occur in doing telehealth. Attention will also be given to the risks and benefits of telehealth including research on accessibility and explain when telehealth is allowed across state lines.

This course satisfies the requirement for existing licensees and applicants for licensure in the Provision of Mental Health Services via Telehealth. It does not count as a Law and Ethics course.

Course Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to name the four required steps that must occur before telehealth services begin in CA.
  • Participants will be able to name the three requirements that must be met each time they meet with a client via telehealth.
  • Participants will be able to apply ethical principles when making decisions to different common situations that arise during telehealth.
  • Participants will be able to identify 3 potential risks and benefits to a client receiving services via Telehealth.
