Consultation Group: Psychopharmacology and Psychotherapy

TPI is hosting a consultation group to give participants the opportunity to ask – and get answers to – all their questions about psychiatric medications. Participants will be encouraged to share case material and ask questions they have about the role, or potential role, of psychiatric medications in their clinical work. Case material will serve as the starting point for review of classes of medications, typical side effects, and best practices for prescribing, collaborating with prescribers, and supporting patients through medication trials. Discussion will also focus on how psychoanalytic/psychodynamic thinking applies to the prescribing of psychotropic medications.

Amy Berlin Amy Berlin, MD, is a psychiatrist in private practice in San Francisco and Berkeley. Her clinical practice includes psychoanalytic psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. She enjoys working with trauma and dissociation, and consulting with pregnant and post-partum women considering psychiatric pharmacotherapy, as well as working with new parents. She particularly enjoys collaborating with like-minded colleagues in a team-based approach to split treatment. Prior to entering private practice, she was on the faculty at UCSF, where she supervised psychiatry residents and served as the staff psychiatrist at the University of California Center on Deafness.

She also has a background in health informatics, and has consulted to behavioral health providers and technology vendors. She previously served as the Secretary-Treasurer of HealthShare Bay Area, a Bay Area-wide community health information exchange.

Dr. Berlin has a B.A. in French Literature from Cornell University. She attended medical school and completed her psychiatry residency at UCSF.
